Roderick Prior's advocacy work is not peripheral to his teaching identity — it is central to it. The same instinct that leads him to stand in the gap for LGBTQ+ students, that earned him Teacher of the Year at La Amistad, and that drives his Special Education practice is the recognition that the students most underserved by existing systems need the most skilled, most committed advocates in their corner.
As an educator and student advisor, he has been a consistent voice for LGBTQ+ inclusion in school policy, curriculum, and daily school culture. His fifteen years in corporate management add a dimension often missing in educational settings — the ability to navigate institutional systems, communicate across hierarchies, and translate human needs into organizational action.
A concept in active development: an organization addressing equity gaps in educational access and cross-cultural exchange. At its heart is the Diaspora ESL initiative — pairing American ESL educators with Brazilian students in a culturally immersive, non-rigid learning model. The Echo Foundation represents the direction this work is moving: toward systemic, community-centered solutions that extend the impact of the classroom into the broader world.
